Putin proposes solution to nuclear standoff between Iran and US, here’s what he offers

Tehran is refusing to give up its enriched uranium, while the Trump administration has repeatedly said it entered the conflict to prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon.

Vladimir Putin offered his perspective on the issue while speaking to international journalists in St. Petersburg.

Control of Iran’s highly enriched uranium should be taken over by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN nuclear watchdog, the Russian leader said.

Referring to Russia’s role in the negotiations that led to the nuclear deal with Iran under Barack Obama’s presidency in 2015, Putin said that both the US and Iran are aware of his proposal and that he hopes Moscow can help again, as it is friendly with Iran.

He said Iran’s uranium could be moved and placed under IAEA control.

“There would be no problem as I see it,” Putin said, admitting, however, that “I could be wrong, but I don’t see what the problem would be.”
