41-year-old Armand Shakaj has been declared wanted by the police for the hostage-taking and murder of his 34-year-old friend, Eglant Koçi.
Meanwhile, today the Tirana Court has ordered the detention of 25-year-old Enea Zyferi, accused of the criminal offense of “supporting the perpetrator of the crime”, in connection with the disappearance of 34-year-old Eglant Koçi. The 25-year-old has given his testimony in court, stating that he has no knowledge of the incident and that he is not implicated.
“I work at Armand Shakaj’s bar as a waiter, on the day the prosecution says, I saw Eglanti when he entered the bar because I know him, then I didn’t see him again, whether he had left or not. Meanwhile, Armand Shakaj told me to turn off the lights in the bar, because he was going to take out a refrigerator and I turned off the lights. The next day, Armand told me to go wash the car in a place far away, somewhere at the end of the new boulevard. I went there and the police caught me. I have nothing to do with this incident,” was the testimony of the arrested waiter Enea Zyferi.
But even though the lights in Shakaj’s bar were turned off, the cameras focused on him putting Eglant Koç’s body in the car and allegedly driving it away in a deep area in Krraba or Librazhd. The police are continuing their search to find the young man, but so far without any results.
Police suspect that Englant Koçi was murdered, as traces of blood were found both in the environment where he was held hostage and in the car.
According to police sources, Eglant Koçi was employed by a group suspected of dealing in cryptocurrencies and call centers.
This fact is being investigated by the police as a key clue to the motives of the crime. Koçi is suspected of having around 700 thousand euros in his electronic cryptocurrency wallet for another person’s account and there are suspicions that several transactions were carried out from his phone on the date he was taken hostage.
