Former police officer surrenders after being wanted since May

Former police officer Irakli Koçiaj, who has been wanted since May 25 by order of the Saranda Prosecutor’s Office, has been surrendered to the Saranda Police Station.

Koçiaj, former crime officer for the Ksamil area, is accused of the criminal offense of “abuse of duty”, within the framework of an investigation related to suspicions of favoring unauthorized construction in the Ksamil area.

According to sources, Koçiaj turned himself in after several weeks of being wanted, and is expected to appear before the Court in the next two days to be informed of the security measure.

Investigations by the Saranda Prosecutor’s Office have previously led to the arrest of 8 former police officers from this department, suspected of the same scheme.

Of these, two of them, including the former Chief of the Police Station, are currently in prison with a 30-day security measure, while the measure is expected to be re-evaluated in the coming days. Meanwhile, 5 others have been placed under “house arrest.”
