Extreme temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius/Meteorology: The peak of the heat wave is expected to be at the weekend

MeteoAlb meteorologist, Lajda Porja, has warned of a severe heat wave expected to affect Albania in the coming days, with temperatures that in some areas could approach 40 degrees Celsius.

According to Porja, the weather will remain stable during the first days of the week, with temperatures currently reaching up to 32 degrees Celsius in some areas of the country. The coast will register around 30 degrees, while mountainous areas will fluctuate between 27 and 28 degrees.

However, the situation is expected to change by the end of the week. The Meteorology Department announced that from Thursday evening, African air masses will reactivate, bringing a significant increase in temperatures.

“On Thursday we expect 35-36 degrees, on Friday 37 degrees, while the weekend and the beginning of next week will be under the influence of very hot weather, where temperatures will approach 39 degrees and in isolated areas even 40 degrees,” said Porja.

According to forecasts, the hottest regions will be Shkodra and Berat, while very high temperatures are also expected in Elbasan, Gjirokastër and Tirana. On the coast, temperatures will be somewhat lower, but will still reach up to 36 degrees Celsius.

Until Thursday, short and isolated showers are expected in the mountainous areas during the afternoon, mainly in the northeast and southeast. After that, the weather will be mainly dry with long intervals of clear weather.

Lajda Porja emphasized that the hottest days will be Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, while the high humidity in the air will make the heat feel even stronger.

Meteorologists advise citizens to avoid sun exposure during the 11:00-15:00 interval, when temperatures peak, and to show increased care for the elderly and children during this heat wave.
