A fierce debate has recently erupted in Albania regarding hormonal treatment for teenagers who want to change gender, an initiative approved by the Albanian government.
Invited to the news studio at “Ora News”, gynecologist Xheni Omeri has openly expressed her indignation at this practice, describing it as a true “scandal” and “horror” for today’s society. Speaking not only as a doctor but also as the mother of a 10-year-old child, Omeri said that it is meaningless and dangerous that a 16-year-old, who by law does not have the right to vote, drive or consume alcohol, is given the opportunity to make such drastic decisions that change the body forever.
The main argument remains the undeniable biological fact: humans are born with unchanging genetic material from the womb, being biologically XX or XY.
Calling it an “experimental process of the human population,” the doctor compared the phenomenon to absurd situations. She questioned whether a 15-year-old who identifies as an animal should be scientifically treated to transform into a dog.
According to her, the desire to change gender is not an issue that should go through a gynecologist’s prescriptions, but a deep problem of mental health and perception of life, which requires psychological and neurological treatment.
Beyond the medical aspect, Omer also raised a major social alarm about the future of the institution of the family.
She warned of a danger where “excessive freedom” without limits could set humanity’s development back in time, undoing the rules that have kept society functional for millennia. Based on this, Dr. Omeri also had a call for the majority of society not to remain silent in the face of these phenomena in the name of absolute individual freedom.
