A new and disturbing form of distribution of narcotics, disguised as food products, has put the State Police on alert. These are products known as “Edibles”, which contain THC, the main psychoactive substance of cannabis, and which, according to the authorities, are circulating near educational institutions. Regarding this situation, the Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has sent an official letter to the Minister of Education and Sports, Mirela Kumbaro, requesting attention and increased preventive measures in schools.
According to information provided by the police, the products have been identified mainly in gel form and are presented in a similar appearance to candies, sweets or other common food products. This makes them particularly dangerous, as they can be consumed unknowingly by children and adolescents. Authorities warn that the similarity to common market products significantly increases the risk of unintentional consumption, while the effects that THC can cause on the body of minors are considered serious. In the letter addressed to the Ministry of Education, the State Police requests increased vigilance in school premises and in the areas surrounding them, as well as closer cooperation between school principals, teachers, psychologists, parents and law enforcement structures to identify and report any suspected cases.
According to the police, these products not only represent a risk to public health, but are also part of the new methods being used to distribute narcotics, targeting young age groups through forms that appear harmless and attractive. Security experts say that the phenomenon of “Edibles” has spread in recent years in different countries around the world, where narcotics are mixed with food products to avoid suspicion and make their distribution easier. For this reason, security institutions are seeking greater awareness among parents and the school community. The State Police has called on citizens and educational institutions to immediately report any suspected cases related to the distribution or trade of these products, in order to prevent their spread and protect children from the risks they pose.
