No more police on the streets? Skënder Hita gives the sensational news

The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, was present this Friday at the activity organized in the capital, at “Mother Teresa” Square, as part of road safety awareness.

During his speech, the head of the Police stated that the monitoring of road violations has entered the era of intelligent monitoring, where, through intelligent tools, road violations will be identified in real time.

Meanwhile, Hita called on schools, young people and families to raise awareness, wear seat belts and avoid using phones while driving.

“The time of unwarranted stops or “hunting” for fines is over. The State Police has entered the era of intelligent monitoring. Through intelligent tools such as “Poliscan” devices, high-quality drones and automatic radars, we identify violations in real time without interrupting the flow of traffic and without creating unnecessary stress on regular drivers. This is an important step towards more professional, more accurate and more transparent policing, but technology cannot save us if awareness is lacking.

Students and young people are the generation that shapes the future culture of road traffic, so educating them from an early age is the most important investment for a safer Albania.

“This is why we are strongly cooperating with educational institutions, because our children and students have an extraordinary awareness-raising impact. When a child tells a parent in the car, “Fasten your seat belt!” or “Don’t talk on the phone!”, that message is worth more than dozens of police fines,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hita also focused on the tourist season, where according to him, the State Police has drafted a detailed plan of measures, where the main focus will be on traffic points, coastal axes and road safety.

“We are currently at the peak of the tourist season and road safety is of particular importance in the smooth running of this season, despite the fact that in recent years Albania has been in tourist season almost all year round.”

We have drawn up detailed plans of measures to manage the large flow of vehicles that multiply during the summer. Our focus will be maximum on traffic hotspots, on coastal and tourist axes, enabling the increase of road safety parameters, the facilitation of traffic and a welcoming and more professional service for every citizen and tourist who chooses our country. Road safety is a social contract where everyone has a part of the duty.

It is the contribution of motorcyclists who must wear helmets, and of drivers who must respect the right of way and strictly enforce road traffic rules.

It is a contribution of driving schools, which should not just put people with licenses on the road, but responsible drivers.

It is a contribution of schools, of every parent, of responsible institutions and of the entire society. Every citizen must understand that road safety begins with personal responsibility.

“By each doing their part, by sharing the best awareness-raising experiences, like today’s with EVU, and by increasing inter-institutional cooperation and cooperation with citizens, we will have safer roads and more lives saved,” he said.
