Weekend up to 41°C/ Meteorologist Lajda Porja: The heat wave will last until…

Albania enters the peak of the African heat wave this weekend, with temperatures expected to reach up to 41°C in some areas of the country. According to meteorologist Lajda Porja, after several days when the country was on the periphery of this wave, the heat waves have now fully penetrated the Albanian territory.

Temperatures of up to 40°C are expected today in the areas above Shkodra, while most of the western lowlands will register values between 38 and 39°C. The highest temperatures will be recorded in Shkodra, Tirana, Elbasan, Berat and Gjirokastër.

According to the forecast, the hottest day will be Sunday, when the thermometer is expected to reach up to 41°C in the districts of Shkodra and Elbasan, while in areas such as Ura Vajgurore, Cërriku, Belshi and Lazarati temperatures could easily exceed 40°C.

The weather will be mostly clear and rainless on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Isolated showers are expected in the eastern areas only on Friday afternoon, while high humidity will make the perceived temperature even higher.

A slight change is expected on Tuesday, when the heat wave will gradually recede, bringing a decrease in temperatures by 3-4 degrees and the return of showers in most of the country. The coast is expected to remain the area with the lowest chance of precipitation.

Meteorology advises citizens to avoid sun exposure during peak hours, especially from 11:00 to 17:30, as temperatures measured in the shade can reach up to 46°C in urban areas. Special attention is recommended for children, the elderly and people with cardiovascular problems, while for the weekend, mountainous areas are suggested, where temperatures will be lower, around 34°C in Kukës and Has.

According to the forecast, this heat wave is expected to last about five days, much less than the extreme episode of summer 2023, which lasted nearly three weeks.
