The United States Embassy in Tirana has published a security notice for American citizens in Albania, regarding the protests that have been taking place for several days in the capital.
In its statement, the embassy emphasizes that although rallies often begin peacefully, they can escalate and spread to different areas of the city, including near state institutions. It also anticipates increased police presence, roadblocks, traffic diversions, and movement restrictions during the protests.
For this reason, the diplomatic mission calls on American citizens to avoid demonstrations, to be cautious, and to always have an emergency plan in case the situation escalates.
In its guidelines, the embassy also recommends monitoring local media, avoiding unnecessary movement in protest areas, and maintaining a low profile when in public.
The announcement comes at a time when protests in Tirana have been ongoing for several days and authorities have increased security measures around key state institutions.
