State Police officer Anxhelo Kumaraku, 30, was wounded by gunfire shortly after midnight in the Shkoza area of Tirana. According to preliminary information, he was shot by unidentified individuals while he was in the neighborhood with his neighbor, who was reportedly under house arrest. As a result of the shooting, Kumaraku received a bullet in the leg and was urgently transported to the Trauma Hospital, where his life is out of danger.
Unofficial sources indicate that the officer’s neighbor had conflicts with other people involved in drug trafficking, due to the disruption of the bargains. It is suspected that the perpetrators took advantage of the fact that he had left the apartment, breaking the security measure imposed by the court, and organized the assassination attempt on him. Investigators are verifying the lead that the target of the attack was precisely the person under house arrest and not the police officer.
The focus of the investigation has also been placed on the role of Anxhelo Kumaraku himself, as it is suspected that he not only knew that his neighbor had broken the “house arrest”, but also failed to notify the police structures and was accompanying him at the time of the assassination. Immediately after the incident, the Police set up checkpoints on several axes of Tirana and are conducting intensive checks to identify and capture the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the investigative group and the Police Supervision Agency (AMP), under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, continue their work to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
