High temperatures have significantly increased the risk of fires in the country. The Institute of Geosciences, Energy, Water and Environment (IGJEUM) has warned that during this Tuesday and Wednesday, a high risk of fires breaking out and spreading is expected in most of Albania.
According to IGJEUM, the weather will be characterized by high temperatures, while the wind will blow light to moderate, conditions that favor the spread of flames in areas with dry vegetation.
The highest risk is predicted in 9 regions of the country, where authorities are calling on citizens to avoid any action that could cause fire. This afternoon (Tuesday, 04) and tomorrow (Wednesday, 05) a “HIGH” risk level is expected in the regions of Lezhë, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Berat, Korçë, Vlorë and Gjirokastër, while a “MODERATE” risk level is expected in the regions of Shkodër, Kukës and Dibër.
Meanwhile, in other regions the risk is assessed as moderate. However, in some areas of the regions of Shkodra, Kukës and Dibra, a high level of risk for the spread of flames is also predicted.
Authorities are urging citizens to exercise maximum caution, not to light fires in open spaces, and to immediately report any fires to the responsible structures to prevent their spread.
