Changes to the Highway Code have been in effect since August 7. The toughened measures severely punish repeat drunk drivers, who will have their licenses revoked forever.
In a statement to the media, the director of the Traffic Police, Perlat Vatoci, presented the new changes, emphasizing that the main goal is to increase road safety, raise driver awareness, and reduce the number of accidents.
According to him, one of the changes foresees the postponement of the right to obtain a driving license for up to one year for people caught driving a vehicle without a driving license. For minors, this period extends to up to two years.
If you are drunk, have been previously fined by the police for this violation of the Highway Code, and drive again with more than 0.5 g/liter in your blood, your license will be revoked permanently, with no possibility of retaking it at a driving school.
“Permanent revocation of the driver’s license when a driver has a blood alcohol level higher than 0.5 grams per liter (g/l) and has been previously convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or while intoxicated. This measure comes as a need to address the worrying phenomenon of road accidents with consequences due to driving under the influence of alcohol or while intoxicated,” he said.
