“There’s no money”! / Durrës in “distress”! Pensioners wait for hours in the heat to receive their pensions

For days, pensioners in Durrës have been facing delays in receiving their pensions, appearing at Albanian Post offices without being able to withdraw the money on the specified date or even in the following days.

In the high temperatures of these days, the elderly wait in line and, according to their testimonies, when they arrive at the counter they receive the same answer: “There is no money.”

Pensioners say that this situation is not new and that it is repeated almost every month. They say that they are forced to return to the Post Office several times to receive their pension, which for many of them is the main source of money to cover medicine, food and daily expenses.

According to the information made public, the delays in the distribution of pensions are related to the lack of funds. The service depends on the funds brought by the Post Office branch in Durres, as well as other receipts.

The situation comes at a time when the Albanian Post branch in Durrës is facing another serious issue.

Last month, a missing fund worth around 700,000 euros was reported, and the branch manager, the head of finance, and the cashier were arrested for this incident. All three are accused of theft through abuse of office.

While investigations continue to uncover the fate of the missing amount, pensioners in Durrës face the same concern every month and demand that their pensions be distributed on time.

For them, the demand is simple: to no longer be forced to wander around counters to get the money they need to cover their basic living needs.
