Sister recounts: They tried to kidnap my child… This call, in a voice that indicated a battle with death and severe psychological shock, was the alarm that the relatives of the Mahmuti family received at dawn on March 19, 2011.
“It was my brother’s wife who was injured in the tragedy, the massacre, and she called my uncle’s son and said: Come on, they killed us..” said Silvana Omeri, Zenel Mahmut’s sister.
The daughter-in-law of the house, Myzejenia, with gunshot wounds to her body, found the strength to make the terrible announcement, and then, at the family’s apartment in the “Syrja Dylgjeri” neighborhood, the police arrived…
The scene was horrific. A family completely wiped out. Father Emin Mahmuti, 62, sons Xhelali, 36, and Pëllumbi, 42, all 3 died on the spot with gunshot wounds. The daughter-in-law of the house, 42-year-old Myzejen Qosja, Pëllumbi’s partner, was found in serious condition, but fortunately managed to survive.
In one of the rooms, 62-year-old Emini and his 36-year-old son Xhelali were found dead with a bullet in the head. In the other room, another son, Pëllumbi, was found dead with a bullet in the head. After the latter was killed, his partner was also hit and fell unconscious, being thought dead by the perpetrator of the brutal crime.

. The victims were the close family of Zenel alias Andon Mahmut, known by the nickname “Nel Çami”. None of the dead people had a criminal record. The incident has not been solved to this day, although the investigation immediately focused on the conflict that began in Spain with the Çaka family. The perpetrators of the crime, since they were unable to find Nel, took revenge by killing the entire family inside the apartment.
“Now, we knew this because they put a lot of pressure on my younger brother, Lali, and Lali told me, sister, they would kill us, and my father was scared, they would drive past him and say: Live a few more days.. Everest Caka and Arjan Spahiu, in the last few days they terrified my brother. We have cut off his Cham costume, and for a few days even his lipstick..”, said Silvana Omeri, Zenel Mahmut’s sister.
Among the first actions taken by the police at that time was the escorting and questioning of several people considered to be close to Nel Çami’s opponents.
