The fire broke out at around 04:05 in the hotel’s interior, in the “10 Korriku” neighborhood. The flames allegedly started in the restaurant and spread throughout the building, forcing vacationers to seek a way out of the hotel.
Some of them, in an attempt to escape the flames, were forced to jump from balconies, suffering fractures and other bodily injuries.
According to the Police, five of the injured have been transported for specialized treatment to the Burn Hospital in Tirana, while another is receiving medical assistance at the Vlora Regional Hospital. Two of the injured have suffered significant burns to their bodies.
Preliminary investigations, including the review of security camera footage, indicate that the fire was accidental. It is suspected that the flames were caused by a burned-out electrical outlet in a refrigerator located in the restaurant.
