A bus caught fire today in Qafë e Kalasë. The bus with license plate AB 917 UE, filled with foreign tourists, started to catch fire while traveling towards the Berat Castle.
After the first sparks were noticed in the front of the bus, the driver stopped and the 52 passengers inside, including children, got off the bus. None of the passengers suffered any injuries as they got off before the bus was engulfed in flames.
After sparks appeared in the engine compartment, the fire began to spread inside. Numerous fire and police forces went to the scene and fought the flames to extinguish them. As a result of the fire, the bus was completely destroyed.
Also, a Benz SUV parked at the door of the house was also destroyed by the flames, the owner of which was unable to move it. Official police and fire service sources are conducting investigations to determine the causes of the fire, which is initially suspected to have been caused by an electrical spark in the engine.
The same sources claim that the bus driver, citizen Ervis Dyrmani, from Durrës, has been taken to the police station, while the police have not yet given any confirmation about the nationality of the tourists on the bus.
