Sokrat Vata, the 29-year-old man arrested for the murder of Portuguese tourist Luis Miguel Varela Mendes in Ksamil, has been questioned to shed light on the circumstances of the serious incident. However, he has chosen not to give any statement to investigators.
Journalist Xhensila Kodra reports that the two Turkish citizens who were in the vehicle in which Vata was leaving were also questioned.
In the presence of translators, they stated that they were regular customers of the “Principotes” bar and that they paid the 29-year-old for services as a bodyguard and personal escort.
According to their testimonies, they had taken Vata in the vehicle because of the social relationship they had established with him and not to help him escape after the crime.
Meanwhile, the investigative team has also questioned the victim’s friends, who have given their version of how the conflict began.
According to preliminary evidence, the clash allegedly started after a girl was harassed inside the bar. The situation then escalated, involving several people fighting with each other.
Security officers, including Sokrat Vata, also intervened in the conflict.
According to the testimonies of the victim’s friends, “the 20-year-old Portuguese man had intervened to separate the people involved in the fight,” but in the chaos that ensued, he was stabbed.
