Iran is considering scenarios to take the war to Europe if President Donald Trump escalates the conflict. The Financial Times reports this, citing Iranian sources. The Islamic Republic is reportedly considering striking American targets in Southeast Europe, including Albania.
The source cited by the Financial Times mentions Bulgaria, which last month approved the use of the Besmer air base for aerial refueling of US aircraft. Cyprus, where a British air base was hit by a drone in March, remains among the targets of retaliation in the event of a new US offensive, according to the Iranian source.
The Financial Times reports that Tehran is also considering the possibility of an attack on undersea fiber-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz, should there be an escalation.
“If the United States were to go too far, Iran would defend itself at all costs, extending its action beyond the region and even hitting Europe,”
NATO’s response was not delayed, expressing its readiness to face any threat to the allies’ defense.
“As proven this year, when NATO air defenses successfully intercepted ballistic missiles aimed at Turkey from Iran, our deterrence and defense posture is strong and effective. NATO is ready to confront any threat and will always do whatever is necessary to protect all allies,” an alliance official said. (A2 Television)
