The mysterious geological formation in the shape of a boat, in the mountains of eastern Turkey, has long been considered more of a natural rock massif.
But an international team studying the Durupınar formation, near Mount Ararat, believes it is more than just rock, and may actually contain the remains of Noah’s Ark.
According to the Bible, the ark saved Noah, his family and every kind of animal from destruction during a catastrophic flood, which some biblical chronologies date back more than 4,300 years. Now, new radar research has revealed strong subsurface anomalies and distinct layers within the formation, which is about 157 meters long, questioning the idea that it is a single, homogeneous rock mass.
The research, led by Dr. Khosrow Bakhtar, used BakhtarRadar, a specialized imaging system developed through US Air Force research, to penetrate deeper below the surface of the area than previous scans.
Researchers will further analyze the data and plan drilling to collect samples, to verify whether the anomalies discovered have a natural origin or can be linked to man-made structures.
