Albania marks another important step on the path towards the European Union. On May 26 in Brussels, the Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference is expected to seal the successful conclusion of the introductory phase and the opening of the final phase of the accession negotiations.
Prime Minister Edi Rama described this development as a victory for European Albania, while accusing political opponents of spreading negative news about the country in the international arena.
Rama described May 26 as “a day of pride for Albania”, emphasizing that the integration process is entering a decisive stage for the country’s European future. The Prime Minister’s writing:

They said the negotiations were blocked. They said Albania was punished. They said Europe woke up and the drug regime was exposed. They took to the streets with Molotov cocktails, to burn Albania in the eyes of foreigners. They took to Europe with bags of mud and dirt, to smear Albania in the eyes of foreigners. They were deceived as always by their own minds and they deceived even those who are increasingly few in number, who go with that mind.
They lost again. And Albania won again.
On May 26 in Brussels, the Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference successfully seals the introductory phase and opens the concluding phase of the membership negotiations. Because unlike what those who always lose in the end talk about day and night, the European Albania we are building is a success story, which is written with vision, work and dedication, step by step, and in the end always wins.
This is another day of pride for Albania, for our great team, for all its departments in every part of the field of public responsibilities, for the parliamentary majority, for the government, for the independent institutions, and of course for those who represent them at the negotiating table for Albania 2030 in the EU.
