Democratic Leader Sali Berisha held a meeting today with the Albanian diaspora in New Jersey, USA.
During his speech, Berisha described his return to the US as an emotional moment, emphasizing that he is now in the country where, according to him, an attempt was made to permanently ban him from entering. He also praised the contribution of the Albanian diaspora in the US and linked his battle to what he described as the fight for freedom, dignity and the Albanian nation.
“I was very lucky to meet that constellation of the Albanian diaspora which, with its patriotism, with its national ideals, made an extraordinary contribution to the overthrow of the communist dictatorship in Albania and fought for the freedom of Kosovo.
The Albanian diaspora in the USA is the white destiny of the Albanian nation. For us today is a day that for me evokes emotions, that many have thought impossible, that we would never see. Because we have often asked, who are we to stand up to injustice. We are Albanians and therefore we fight in unequal conditions for our nation and for its dignity.
This day marks one of those times, the force of evil as we know it, denied me entry into the US, at a time when I was 8 years removed from any power. But the values upon which this great country and nation, the land of the free, the home of the brave, is built, make it crystal clear that this injustice was not coming from the US, but from the anti-freedom and anti-nation agendas, which President Trump himself has described as the far left.
“We started this battle seemingly in the dark, but no night can last forever. Those who prepared the deceptions against me are today non grata in their own country,” said Berisha.
