The incident occurred during local festivities as the woman was watching the race. According to local authorities, she was outside the protective barriers set up along the route when one of the bulls attacked her. The mayor of Ayna, Juan Ángel Martínez, said the woman was standing motionless near a barrier in the Las Cuevas neighborhood when the bulls started running. One of the bulls broke free and went after her.

The Castilla-La Mancha emergency service received a call at around 10:55 and a medical helicopter was also sent to the scene.

Despite the immediate intervention of medical teams, the 64-year-old woman died from serious injuries during transportation to the helicopter landing pad. According to the mayor, the victim was originally from Catalonia and lived with her family in an area of ​​the Sierra del Segura.

During the same race, another man, in his 60s, was injured in the hand after being attacked by another bull.

Following the tragedy, the mayor announced the suspension of all activities planned for Saturday. Local celebrations in honor of Our Lady of Santa María de los Altos were scheduled to continue until September 8.
