A suspected corruption case has put authorities in motion in North Macedonia, where a government employee has been arrested, allegedly demanding 1,500 euros in exchange for securing a job.

According to the Prosecution, the arrested man, who worked as a driver for a senior government official, had told them that he had influence over responsible persons in the city of Skopje and that he could interfere with his employment in the competition for the admission of firefighters.

The case was reported by the citizen himself, who contacted the police after allegedly being asked for the amount of money. After launching an investigation, the authorities organized a controlled operation to hand over the money.

On September 4, the suspect was caught red-handed receiving 500 euros, as part of the 1,500 euros he allegedly demanded for interfering in the employment process.
