In an interview for a television show, Alesia Balliu made strong statements against the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accusing him of holding the Democratic Party hostage and hindering free competition within it.
Balliu stated that her expulsion from the DP structures and the rejection of her candidacy for the May 23 elections came as a result of the critical stances she has taken towards the current party leadership.
“I have a battle with the individual Sali Berisha, not with the Democrats. Today, he no longer represents the interests of the Democrats and Albanians,” she declared during the interview.
In the studio, Balliu made direct accusations against Berisha, calling him a “traitor to the democrats” and claiming that the DP leader is using the party for personal and family interests.
She also accused other DP figures, such as Flamur Noka, Gjin Gjoni, and analyst Alfred Lela, of slandering her regarding claims that she works in the state administration.
“I have been a lawyer for six years and I challenge anyone to produce a document that proves otherwise,” said Balliu.
One of her strongest statements was the claim that people close to Berisha offered her favors in exchange for silence and political support.
“There have been offers for apartments and positions, just to come out publicly in support of Sali Berisha. But I do not compromise with the truth,” she said.
At the end of the interview, Balliu declared that he would support Ervin Salianji as part of what he called the “new democratic spirit,” while adding that the DP cannot return to power with the current leadership.
“The Democratic Party needs a new opposition, uncorrupted and with new figures,” said Balliu.
