TIRANA – US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Global Partnerships in the Balkans, Paolo Zampolli, has paid an official visit to the Bektashi World Patriarchate, where he focused on bilateral cooperation, religious coexistence and the project for the creation of a sovereign Bektashi state in Tirana.
During the visit, which took place on Mother Teresa’s Day, Zampolli met with the World Patriarch, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj (Baba Mondi), and highly praised interfaith harmony in Albania, describing our country as an important friend and ally of the United States.
Asked by journalists about the initiative presented by Prime Minister Edi to create a sovereign Bektashi entity, the US special envoy stressed that the decision belongs to the Albanian citizens and that the international community will respect their every will.
“I have heard the Prime Minister speak, I have heard His Holiness speak. Ultimately, the people decide or will decide. If the people of Albania want this, I think this is a good thing,” Zampolli said, adding that the voice of the people must be heard.
The focus of the talks was also on joint projects in the field of health and the strengthening of economic and strategic relations between the two countries, while Zampolli is also expected to hold meetings with representatives of the Albanian government and parliamentary groups.
