The decision of the Court of Appeal in Bologna to reduce the sentence from 17 to 15 years in prison for the ex-boyfriend of 13-year-old Albanian Aurora Tili has caused anger among family members.
The teenager, who was 15 years old at the time of the tragic event, is being tried by the juvenile justice system. We recall that Aurora Tili lost her life after falling from the balcony of her apartment on October 25, 2024, in Piacenza, Italy, while her ex-boyfriend was accused of causing this tragedy.
Aurora’s mother’s lawyer, Emilio Malaspina, said the family is particularly unhappy with the request for a reduced sentence, while describing the 13-year-old as the youngest victim of femicide in Europe.
The harshest reaction came from her mother, Morena Corbellini, who opposed the court’s decision. “Then we expect the rate of female murders to decrease? They will only increase, and minors will also kill more and more, until the country intervenes forcefully and correctly. Things will only get worse; sentences are given lightly,” she said.
Aurora’s family is calling for a tougher approach to cases of violence against women and minors, while the victim’s mother has called for institutional intervention in the face of cases of femicide.
