Three young men from Fier living in Athens tragically lost their lives in the early hours of this Thursday morning, as a result of a serious road accident in Glyfada, one of the most expensive areas of the Greek capital. Two others are in serious condition.
The shocking accident occurred at 02:00 in the morning on the coastal road near Glyfada. At the intersection of Poseidonos Avenue and Kalypsous Street, heading towards Piraeus, the car with five passengers suddenly swerved and crashed at high speed into the wall of a hotel.
Emergency medical services and police immediately arrived at the scene, while firefighters rescued the two young men who had been trapped between the crushed bars of the car. The other three, unfortunately, died at the scene.
Their identities are not known, but a local portal in Fier has published photographs of the young people, while dozens of citizens express messages of condolence to the families of the Fier residents who passed away in Athens.
The evidence is shocking. According to Greek media, friends of the five young men are talking about a race to the death, as the Albanian youths originally from Fier were racing another car and the footage was being broadcast live on social media.
The injured 18-year-old is hospitalized in very serious condition, intubated in the intensive care unit, after suffering a severe head injury, while the other injured man of the same age is hospitalized in the Orthopedics Department, unable to understand that his three friends are dead.
Hellenic police investigations are focusing on the possibility that another vehicle was involved in the accident, at the level of an improvised race. Phone records will be collected to determine whether the five friends were live streaming on TikTok in the final moments before the accident.
At the same time, an expert is examining what is left of the car to determine its speed at the time of the crash and to answer the question of whether they were wearing seat belts.
