Three Albanians lost their lives in the building explosion in Greece, new details emerge

New details have become known about the tragic event in Plaka, Greece, where an explosion in a building killed 6 people, including 3 Albanian citizens.

According to investigations by Greek authorities, it is suspected that the natural gas leak, which caused the deadly explosion and collapse of the building in Plaka, started from the apartment on the second floor, where an elderly couple lived, who lost their lives.

Greek media report that checks on the central gas supply network have not revealed any leaks, but even after verifications on the sidewalk, the network proved to be isolated and without problems.

For this reason, investigators estimate that the leak occurred inside the apartment, the only one in the building that was connected to the gas network. Three appliances were connected to the apartment, a stove, a fireplace and a water heater. However, it has not yet been determined which of them was the source of the leak.

Meanwhile, the victims’ families arrived in Greece on Sunday at the request of the authorities. They will provide genetic material for DNA analysis, as part of the process of identifying the bodies.

We recall that the explosion and collapse of the building on “Lysikratous” Street killed Albanians Florinda Hoxha and her husband, Ian Alexander Kirkpatrick, Eris Cani and her husband, Florin Hoxha, as well as the elderly couple, Athina Paparesku and Edmond Hings.
