Official decision after the int*me video scandal: The Albanian state decides to…

Following the intimate video scandal that involved several well-known Albanian art figures, the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) has taken concrete action to remove the materials distributed on social networks.

The President of the AMA, Armela Krasniqi, announced that the institution has received dozens of complaints from affected artists, citizens and civil society organizations, who have requested intervention to stop the distribution of the videos.

“After the public appeal made by the show ‘Tech Talk’, we actually had an influx of complaints, which came from citizens, from affected artists, and from civil society, from several organizations,” Krasniqi declared for Top Channel.

According to her, during this week alone, 54 complaints related to the case were processed, which were assessed as violations of legislation and the Broadcasting Code.

Following AMA’s communication with the TikTok platform, 45 publications have been removed, while nine others remain under review.

“If from February to early October we have administered 326 complaints at the institution, of which 140 were found to be in violation and the platform has removed 112, in the case in question, 54 complaints have been processed this week alone, all in violation of legislation and the Broadcasting Code,” explained Krasniqi.

The head of the AMA explained that the intervention was carried out through cooperation with TikTok, at a time when the legal framework for monitoring digital platforms still has gaps.

The actions taken aim to limit the distribution of materials that violate the privacy of individuals and may incite bullying or other forms of public harm to the persons involved.

However, the blocking of 45 publications does not mean that the videos have been permanently deleted from the internet or that the people responsible for their distribution have been identified.

AMA has called on citizens to report similar content through the official website ama.gov.al, in order to request their removal from the relevant platforms.

Meanwhile, investigations into how the intimate videos were initially obtained and published are a separate matter, which falls to law enforcement agencies.
