PENSIONERS, ATTENTION! A new scheme is being prepared – here’s what could change!

Pension indexation will take place in April 2027 with a value of 1.35 billion lek. From January, the value of the monthly bonus for pensioners will be doubled, at a cost of 20 billion lek, and 13 billion lek will be transferred to the special fund at the Bank of Albania.

The budget for 2027 will be around 10 billion euros, which is based on expectations for continued economic growth led by the services and construction sectors.

Although the draft has not yet been finalized, some of the main pillars of this budget were revealed in a television show.

The Ministry of Health will retain the throne for the largest budget with 89.3 billion lek, where support for oncology drugs will continue. Then with the largest increase is the Ministry of Defense with a total fund of 76.5 billion lek. In 2027, defense spending reaches the level of 2.35% of GDP or 68.8 billion lek.
As for agriculture, the ministry’s budget increases by only 1 billion lek and will reach 16.5 billion lek in total. In agriculture, the national scheme is expected to be 5.3 billion lek from 5.2 billion lek this year, VAT compensation for farmers will continue with a value of 3 billion lek and the unblocking of IPARD III funds of 94 million euros has also been set as an objective. Meanwhile, in the more social aspect, the draft budget foresees approximately 35 billion lek for pensioners for 2027.

Full urban pensions worth up to 40 thousand lek will receive 3600 lek per month. Partial urban pensions worth up to 22 thousand lek will receive 1600 lek, rural pensions worth up to 18 thousand lek per month will receive a bonus of 2000 lek, family pensions (1400) and disability pensions (1200 lek) will also receive double. Whoever exceeds the ceilings will not benefit, even a citizen who has a pension of 36 thousand lek will not receive the full bonus so as not to exceed 40 thousand lek.

More money has also been foreseen for local government, the value of the transfer to municipalities is 56 billion lek, but the distribution formula has not yet been specified due to the territorial reform approved at midnight this Friday.

Another important change that will be financed with the 2027 budget will be the new reform of family support for children.

25,000 children are expected to be the number of beneficiaries of the new baby bonus scheme that will be in effect from the middle of next year. The government plans to provide 5,000 lek per month for the first child, 7,000 lek for the second, and 10,000 lek for the third and subsequent children up to the age of 5.
