Images of war are coming from the “Martyrs of the Nation” boulevard in the capital, where there were clashes between protesters and police forces this evening. Journalist Anesti Bajrmamaj reported that the streets near the Prime Minister’s Office were littered with stones, various objects and overturned flower pots, which have also created barriers on the boulevard.
“It seems like a war situation on Dëshmor i Kombit Boulevard, where there are already stones thrown, various objects, but also all the flower pots that were on the boulevard, have already ended up on the street, creating a barricade for the police, but again the police have managed to pass between them and chase the protesters for a few meters, who now return from time to time,” he reported.
According to the journalist, in addition to confrontations with the police, the protest has caused considerable damage to private businesses. Several second-tier banks have been destroyed, while documents and furniture from their premises have ended up on the street. Damage has also been found in several branches of mobile companies, especially in the Piramide area and on Elbasani Street.
Kiosks and businesses along the protesters’ route have also been damaged. Two kiosks on “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard were burned, while similar cases were reported on Elbasani Street.
Meanwhile, several businesses and banks have put up protection on their facades to avoid further damage, following the incidents of recent days. According to the journalist, it remains to be seen whether the protesters will retreat from attacks on private property or whether the damage will continue in the coming days.
“It will be seen in the coming days whether there will be a withdrawal from the protesters, regarding the damage to private businesses, or whether they will continue with this scenario that they have carried out for three days in a row.”
