After Europe, the heat wave sweeps the Balkans! Temperatures towards records in Albania, Kosovo and the region

After the extreme temperatures that swept across Western Europe, the heat wave is moving towards the Balkans, where meteorologists are warning of days with record temperatures and increased risk to citizens’ health.

According to international media, temperatures are expected to reach up to 39°C from Sunday in parts of Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Meteorological services predict that the heatwave will last at least until Monday.

In Croatia, the entire Adriatic coast has been placed on red alert due to high temperatures.

In Belgrade, the thermometer is expected to reach 36°C on Saturday, 38°C on Sunday, and up to 39°C on Monday and Tuesday, risking breaking the June record of 38.7°C, recorded in 2021.

Despite the scorching heat, thousands of people are expected to attend a rally organized by the ruling party in the Serbian capital.

Even in Pristina, the high temperatures have changed the rhythm of life. The main streets were almost empty during the afternoon, as citizens rushed to make necessary purchases to avoid going out during the weekend.

On the Croatian coast, the effects of the heat are also being felt at sea. In the city of Pula, the water temperature reached above 27°C in the early hours of the morning.

The region has experienced similar episodes before. During the summer of 2025, Kosovo recorded its highest temperature on record, 42.4°C, while Albania faced massive fires that burned tens of thousands of hectares of land and forced thousands of residents to flee their homes.

Authorities are urging citizens to limit movement during the hottest hours of the day, consume as much fluids as possible, and take special care of children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.
