At today’s meeting, the government decided that all old-age pensions, special pensions, as well as other benefits of the social security scheme, will be indexed by 2.7%, starting from July 1.
The news was initially announced during a press conference by Minister Delina Ibrahimaj, while new details were subsequently published.
This indexation, which is considered a compensation for price increases, especially this year, when inflation has exceeded 3% due to tensions in the Middle East that led to an increase in fuel prices and other products in Albania as well, will directly affect over 900 thousand Albanian citizens.
According to this increase, the average urban old-age pension, which according to data from the Social Security Institute was 20,123 lek at the end of 2025, with an indexation of 2.7% will increase by 543 lek per month, reaching 20,666 lek.
As for pensions in rural areas, they are expected to increase from 11,878 lek to 12,199 lek. While disability pensions in urban areas will increase by 537 lek, while those in rural areas by 279 lek.
It is worth noting that this is the first indexation since 2022 to be carried out again in July. In recent years, indexation has been carried out in October, causing pensioners to wait several months longer to benefit from the increase.
This decision was made to mitigate the impact of the rising cost of living and inflation over recent years.
