An Indian ship has been hit by a missile and sunk near Yemeni waters, India’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs announced in a post on the X platform.
According to Indian authorities, all 14 sailors on board were rescued by the Yemeni Coast Guard and taken to the port of Mocha. Of the crew, 13 are Indian nationals.
India has condemned the attack on the ship, calling it a strike on a defenseless vessel.
Indian Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated that the safety of Indian citizens remains a priority and that authorities have taken measures to ensure the protection of sailors in the area.
“India strongly condemns this unprovoked attack on a defenceless sailing vessel. I am pleased to announce that all 14 sailors have been rescued safely by the Yemeni Coast Guard and have been transferred to the port of Mocha,” Sonowal said.
He added that the General Directorate of Maritime Administration has been instructed to coordinate with relevant agencies to provide the necessary assistance to the rescued crew.
