Gunshots were heard last night from a yacht sailing in Palasa, where the four people on board were detained after about 2 hours of operation. It is reported that among the people escorted are Astrit Gjonpalaj, former police officer and owner of the company “Globus Travel”, as well as Astrit Meta, an Albanian-American citizen. The latter are suspected of having been on the yacht at the time the shots were heard.
During the pursuit, two of the people on board the yacht attempted to approach the shore in a dinghy to escape the police, but after seeing the presence of officers on land, they returned to the yacht. One of the other people jumped into the sea, but was later caught by the Border Police.
The yacht was initially headed for Greece, but then changed course. In an attempt to escape the authorities, the yacht turned off its lights and continued moving at sea, but after a two-hour chase, the vehicle was stopped and taken to Portopalermo for a detailed inspection.
The incident occurred at around 9:00 PM, when vacationers in the area reported to the police that gunshots had been heard from a yacht. Immediately after receiving the alert, the Border Police and the Maritime Police Unit services were urgently mobilized and began pursuing the vessel in the maritime space.
The vessel was subjected to a thorough search by numerous police forces, but it has not yet been announced what was found on board. However, the motives for the shootings and who fired the gun are still unknown, while investigations continue to document the full circumstances of the incident./Dosja.al
