A serious road accident in Germany has claimed the lives of three members of a family originally from Ferizaj, who were returning to Germany after staying in Kosovo.
The victims have been identified as Tahir Aliu (61 years old), his son Gentian Aliu (34 years old) and Laurenti Aliu (16 years old).
According to German media, the accident occurred on Thursday morning on the A3 motorway near Nittendorf in the Regensburg district. For reasons that are still unclear, the vehicle left the road, slid down an embankment and ended up on the railway tracks that run under the motorway. The collision was fatal for the three people in the vehicle, who died at the scene as a result of their serious injuries.
The rescue operation took place in difficult conditions, as the victims were trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency crews used a crane to remove the vehicle from the area where it had fallen.
The accident caused significant traffic disruption. The A3 motorway towards Nuremberg was closed for several hours, while rail traffic on the Regensburg–Nuremberg line was also suspended.
As a result of the damage to the overhead power line, a train with about 80 passengers was stranded. The passengers were evacuated and transferred to another train, while the rail vehicle was then pulled by a diesel locomotive.
