On the morning of August 4, 2026, at around 5:20 a.m., a 78-year-old man, identified as Jorgji D., was walking from “Muhedin Llagami” Street in Tirana, somewhere at the intersection of the former Bus Park, to cross to the other side of the street. The elderly man saw that there was no vehicle movement on the street.
However, to maintain maximum safety for himself, he decides to switch to white lines. For a few seconds, everything went well. But, just as he was reaching the sidewalk in the middle of the road, he was suddenly hit by a bus.
The 78-year-old man sustained multiple injuries, fell to the ground and did not make it to the hospital alive. He was declared dead at the Trauma Center, while the Traffic Police arrested the bus driver, Agim M., aged around 62, in flagrante delicto.
He stated that he is a bus driver for the “Green Line” company, owned by Nadir Çausholli, and works on the “Astir-Qender” line.
” Boldnews.al ” has obtained the data on this tragic accident in a decision for a security measure of ‘prison arrest’, imposed on the driver by the Tirana Court on August 7, 2026. Meanwhile, regarding the serious incident, the State Police announced that it has arrested the 62-year-old, a resident of Tirana.
“Citizen AM, 62 years old, resident of Tirana, was arrested after on 04.08.2026, at around 05:25, on Kavaja Street, the vehicle (bus) he was driving hit citizen JD, 78 years old, a pedestrian, who lost his life in hospital,” the police statement said.
Accident on the white lines
The Tirana Traffic Police report on the accident resulting in the death of the elderly Jorgji D. states: ” On 04.08.2026, at around 05:20, on Kavaja Street, at the junction with “Muhedin Llagami” Street, in front of the “Joena Cosmetics” store, citizen Agim M…, being in the direction of the Solaris brand bus, with license plate AB768XZ, traveling in the direction of Kombinat – Tirana, was involved in an accident, hitting citizen Jorgji D, who was walking from the sidewalk to the traffic intersection, on the white pedestrian crossing lines .”
Further, the Judicial Police officers write in the case report: ” As a result of this accident, the victim Jorgji Davidi was seriously injured, who was taken to the QSUT Hospital, and died an hour later . “
The accident scene report also states: ” At the scene of the incident there is a clearly visible presence of white pedestrian lines, the traffic light is non-functional (with pulsating light), the road is asphalted, marked, divided into three lanes and another bicycle lane on the south side…”.
Meanwhile, the driver was given an alcohol test, which resulted in a clean result (percentage 0.00 mg/l).
Driver’s license
After the arrest, Judicial Police officers questioned the driver Agim M., in his capacity as a person under investigation, who gave his version of the incident.
” I am employed as a driver at the “Green Line” company, and I use the “Solaris” brand bus with license plates AB 768 XZ, with which I work on the Astir-center line. Today at around 05:00, I went to the company’s bus station in Prush, took the vehicle and headed to the center. I was alone on the bus ,” he initially stated.
Further, the arrested driver says: ” I was driving normally on Kavaja Street, heading from the technological bridge towards the December 21 intersection. When I was at the intersection of the former park, the traffic light was out of order, as it was pulsating. I was in the left lane and continued driving, entering the intersection, while the intersection was completely empty. Suddenly, a pedestrian came out from my right towards the traffic divider, who was crossing the white pedestrian lines. I braked, but the pedestrian collided with the front of the bus and fell to the ground .”
After the moment of the collision, the 62-year-old driver says that ” I got out and went to the injured person, but very soon the traffic police arrived, who notified the ambulance that arrived at the scene and sent the injured person to the hospital. I feel sad about the incident that happened, and I offer my condolences to the family for the tragedy .”
Driver in prison
On August 7, 2026, the Tirana Prosecution Office sent to the court the request for the assignment of the security measure “prison arrest” for the bus driver, Agim M., as a person suspected of ” Violation of road traffic rules “.
The arrested man’s legal counsel, after accepting the facts presented by the prosecution, requested that her client be given a lighter security measure. The lawyer stated that the driver has no criminal record, is the only one working in his family, is deeply remorseful, and that attempts have been made to normalize relations with the victim’s family.
Despite these arguments, the judge in the case, Kujtim Vraniçi, set the security measure “arrest with imprisonment”, given the serious consequences of the accident.
