Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted on Platform X following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement that Ukraine will not recognize Kosovo. Rama emphasizes that Ukraine’s stance on Kosovo should not change Albania’s support for the Ukrainian people.
In his reaction, he emphasizes that support for Ukraine should not be conditioned by its political stances towards Kosovo.

My dear friend, Volodymyr Zelensky, stood in Belgrade and said that Ukraine would never recognize Kosovo. Within an hour, the most vocal nationalists in Tirana and Pristina were already taking out their geopolitical calculators: maybe we should punish Ukraine, stop cheering for the free and mourning for the bombed. The most reckless among them threw stones at us for not giving up Ukraine. Some even cheered for Russia! What a shame to forget the simple truth that freedom does not work with cash. Standing against a war of aggression and for a just peace is not a bill that you tear up when the victim of a barbaric aggression disappoints you. It is not an honor exchanged for an honor, but it is who you are and what you represent in this messy world. And fortunately Albania is not a small man who calculates who owes whom, but the Europe of the Balkans that shows the way through its belief in freedom, democracy and peace, and through the force of its example. Ukraine may be, and yes, wrong about Kosovo, but its right to be free remains indisputable, and to fight for this right means to fight for Europe and for ourselves as well. These truths can very well be found in the same sentence. Albania is big enough to hold both and will hold both. So yes: FREE UKRAINE. Today, tomorrow and always.
