Albanian medicine in mourning! He made a valuable contribution to the formation of new generations, the great doctor and professor passes away

Sad news has come from the world of medicine in our country, where Qemal Poçi has passed away at the age of 97. He held the title of Doctor of Veterinary Sciences and was one of the important figures in the development of Veterinary Toxicology in our country.

The news was announced by the Order of Veterinary Doctors, which expressed its condolences to the family, colleagues and generations of veterinarians who were formed under his influence. Poçi graduated with a Golden Diploma from the Moscow Veterinary Academy and specialized in the field of military toxicology. For more than three decades, he served Albanian veterinary medicine, both in military and civilian structures.

During his career, he worked at the Central Veterinary Hospital, in the country’s largest agricultural farms, and at the Veterinary Research Institute. He also devoted a significant part of his activity to teaching at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The last farewell ceremony will take place on August 16, at 11:00, at the “Alba” Funeral Center, on Durrës Street, Tirana.

It is with deep sadness that we inform the Albanian veterinary community that yesterday, on August 14, Dr. Qemal Poçi, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences and one of the founders of Veterinary Toxicology in our country, passed away at the age of 97.

A graduate with a Gold Diploma from the Moscow Veterinary Academy and specializing in the field of military toxicology, Dr. Poçi dedicated over three decades of work to the military and civilian veterinary service, the Central Veterinary Hospital, the country’s largest agricultural farms, the Veterinary Research Institute, and teaching at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

His research, preventive and clinical work in protecting human and animal health from poisoning and weapons of mass destruction, as well as his contribution to the formation of generations of veterinarians, remain an indelible part of the history of our profession.

The last farewell ceremony will take place tomorrow, August 16, at 11:00, at the “Alba” Funeral Center, Rruga e Durrësit, Tirana.
