Children on motorcycles with their parents, here’s what you need to keep in mind for their safety

Preparation is essential when it comes to taking your child with you on a motorcycle trip.

Start with the right clothing, advises the TÜV Süd advisory center in Germany.

Make sure your child’s clothes always fit properly. Don’t buy them with room to grow. Since children lose body heat more quickly, their clothes should also keep them warm.

If you want to avoid the higher costs of constantly buying new clothes, you can rent the equipment from specialized motorcycle shops.

Make sure the helmet fits properly.

Pay special attention to making sure the helmet fits perfectly and is suitable for children. Children’s helmets are usually lighter and put less strain on the spine. Your child’s helmet should also be well ventilated to prevent the visor from fogging up – poor visibility can ruin the fun of the ride.

When it comes to communicating while riding, you can buy a helmet with a built-in intercom. Alternatively, you can agree on a tapping signal with your child, such as tapping the rider’s thigh. This way, your child can let you know if something is wrong.

After that, enjoy your ride. As the American Motorcycle Association says:  “Is there any better, more family-friendly activity than exploring the great outdoors on two wheels? Sharing your love of two-wheeled travel with your children is one of the best ways to develop the sport and ensure the future of motorcycling, as the activities we associate with during childhood tend to accompany us into adulthood.”/ DPA News
