Albania will face its hottest day of the week on Sunday, with temperatures expected to reach 39°C in some areas.
Forecaster Lajda Porja stated that the highest value will be recorded in the Shkodra region, while temperatures will rise to 38°C in Elbasan, Berat and Gjirokastër.
In most of the western lowlands, the thermometer will mark 36-37°C, while in coastal areas temperatures will fluctuate between 33 and 35°C.
Tirana will also experience a hot weekend. Although no precipitation is expected, cloudiness and high humidity will make the heat feel even more intense. According to Porje, in the capital, the temperature could reach up to 40°C.
The high temperatures will not be just a Sunday episode. They are expected to continue throughout the last ten days of August, with values mainly around 36-37°C in the western lowlands.
According to the weather forecaster, Albania will continue to remain on the periphery of an African heat wave that has also affected other Mediterranean countries.
Isolated rebellions in eastern areas
Meanwhile, precipitation will be sparse and mainly local. During Friday, Saturday and Sunday there may be brief showers in Librazhd, Elbasan, Pogradec, Korça, Ersekë, Bilisht, Tepelena and Përmet.
However, the precipitation will be very isolated and of short duration, affecting only certain areas. On the coast, the weather will remain mainly clear, while in Tirana, sunny intervals are expected during the morning and denser clouds during the afternoon, without signals of significant precipitation.
According to Porje, no significant change in the weather situation is expected until the end of August. Temperatures will remain high, while precipitation will continue to be isolated, mainly in the eastern mountainous areas.
