Authorities in Corfu are investigating a particularly serious case of sexual abuse of a minor, with a 51-year-old man accused of systematically abusing his 8-year-old granddaughter in the family home, in a village in central Corfu. The case, according to ERT, began to emerge when the 8-year-old visited a doctor with her mother. During the examination, the doctor allegedly found signs of abuse and informed the child’s mother. The mother then contacted the police and filed a complaint, leading to an investigation into what exactly had happened and for how long.
The preliminary investigation, according to information received so far, provided evidence that led to the arrest of the 51-year-old. The man, a permanent resident of Corfu and of Albanian nationality, appeared before the prosecutor today, September 10, and requested a deadline to apologize.
He reportedly denies the charges. The child’s parents have also filed a complaint, while the preliminary investigation is ongoing. Police are trying to determine the duration of the alleged abuse, the exact circumstances in which it occurred, and any other evidence that may shed light on the case.
The investigation continues with particular caution, as it concerns a minor child, while all material to be collected will be included in the case file to be evaluated by the judicial authorities.
