The meeting of the National Security Council, held this Monday at the Brigades Palace under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, has ended after about an hour.
The meeting took place at an important moment for the State Intelligence Service, following developments related to the former head of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni, who has been placed under “house arrest” security measure.
Hyseni is accused of passing secret information to Ergys Agas during his time as head of the institution, while the latter was on the run. The case is now under investigation by the justice system.
The focus of the National Security Council meeting was the security situation in the country, the protection of classified information, and recent developments within the State Intelligence Service.
After Hysen’s departure, the commanding leadership of SHISH has been entrusted to Elvis Lila, who is expected to remain at the head of the institution until the appointment of a new director.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi, Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi, Minister of Interior Ervin Demo, and Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha.
Also present were leaders and representatives of the country’s main security institutions, including the SHISH, the State Police, and the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
