Greece/ The bar where Albanian Pëllumb Islami was killed in Athens is destroyed by flames, investigations begin

A cafe in Nea Ionia, Athens, was engulfed in flames in the early hours of the morning. The fire in the cafe on Kastamonis Street grew in size and spread to the three floors above it.

This is the same building where in February 2023 a bloody gun attack was recorded, in which 39-year-old Albanian Pëllumb Islami was killed.

It is not yet known whether the incident is related to Islam. Firefighters are investigating whether the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder or deliberate arson.

According to the police version of Islam’s murder, the 39-year-old, a plumber by profession, was at the bar watching a football match when the gunfight began.

The video cameras showed that on the day of the incident, Pëllumb Islami was accompanied by an armed person. The incident took a different turn due to the fact that Islami was not the target but his friend at the table, who started the fight with the other Albanians.

The victim’s companion had a gun with him and entered the bar first. Then six other people arrived and a fight broke out between them. While one of the gang shot the victim’s companion, who was the target, the bullet caught Pëllumb Islam.

A revolver and a pistol were used during the murder. In connection with the murder, the Greek police issued 7 arrest warrants, of which 2 were executed.
