The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has signed several changes to the institution, after running the country’s largest city from the Durrës detention cell for nearly a month.
A2 reports that the imprisoned mayor has dismissed several administrators of units in the capital.
So far, it has been officially confirmed by the Municipality that these changes have affected several units.
The managers of units 5 (Piro Jani) and 2 (Florian Pullazi) have been removed from their posts. Meanwhile, the administrator of unit number 1, Trendelina Jaku, has been appointed director of the Consumer Protection Agency. While the administrator of Kashari, Xhevahir Koçi, has been appointed director of the Parks and Recreation Agency.
Veliaj has also appointed his advisor Julinda Dhamen. The latter is known as one of his closest collaborators, throughout his two mandates in the Municipality. So far, the Tirana Municipal Council has not made a request to delegate Veliaj’s powers to one of the vice-mayors, which means that the management of the capital’s affairs will continue to be carried out in correspondence from detention.
Veliaj has been defeated at all levels of justice, in order to obtain a more lenient security measure, until the final sentence is handed down to him by the Special Court.
