Ervin Salianji has reacted to the situation in which the country finds itself in these days of chaos, where strong protests have erupted for five days.
The former Democratic Party MP, through a post on social media, casts doubt that senior leaders of this political force have left the capital at these critical moments.
He says that Berisha should leave and finally concludes by writing that a “dignified Albania” must be built. In a post on his Facebook, Salianji wrote:
“Edi Rama must resign or he will be thrown out by the citizens! But in the days when Albania is facing one of the most serious political crises, the opposition, unfortunately, appears as shy, silent and afraid as the very government it claims to oppose.
At a time when the Democratic Party headquarters should have been the epicenter of resistance, when there should have been hourly press conferences, public denunciations, and a steadfast stance on the side of protesters and students who report being mistreated, the opposition chooses silence. There are even reports that its senior leaders have fled the capital precisely at these critical moments.
There are protests in many European countries. But the Albanian tragedy is that citizens seem to have lost faith not only in the government, but also in those who claim to be its alternative. The Albanian crisis is a crisis against the entire political system!
An opposition that fears citizen anger as much as the government cannot be hope for citizens. An opposition that remains silent in the face of injustice, which is absent when young people take to the streets for their dignity and future, is not an alternative. It is part of the same political crisis and the same system that has abandoned Albanians. Therefore, Sali Berisha must open his arms today and give further momentum to the protest, Rama without Berisha will fall within a week!
When citizens no longer see the difference between the government and the opposition, we don’t simply have a crisis of representation. We have the bankruptcy of an entire political system. It is the crisis and political and moral bankruptcy of a class that has lost the right to speak on behalf of Albanians.
Albania needs a real alternative, not a rotation between those who have lost the trust of the citizens. It needs a policy that is not afraid of protest, but joins it. The students and pupils have made it! Let’s do everything to help them! With them, a dignified Albania is built!
