Below is part of the Romanian television report on this serious attack by Edi Rama against the journalist.
The revolt has turned into a direct protest against Prime Minister Edi Rama. Protesters say young people are leaving the country because of corruption.
When ProTV journalist Camelia Donțu, who was in Albania, asked for additional clarification regarding the status of the projects, the prime minister launched an attack.
Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania: There has never been a project that could be canceled.
PRO TV Correspondent : So, it has not been canceled…
Edi Rama: You came here with a mind full of untruths that have blocked your ability to understand the facts and nothing reaches you anymore.
PRO TV Correspondent: No, my mind works very well.
Edi Rama: Your mind works well, the problem is how open it is to facts.
PRO TV correspondent : Very open.
Although the prime minister claims that there is no project yet, the political decision seems to have already been made: the government has no intention of abandoning the investment.
Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania : Of course we will do it. As I said from the beginning, we will do it. We will develop these areas. It is clear that this will happen. The environmental assessment will be done and only then will there be a project.
Regarding the island of Sazan, Rama says that negotiations are continuing and that it will not be sold. Regarding Zvërnec, where the land is private, discussions are more advanced.
The European Commission has requested clarifications from the authorities and warns that Albania, which is in the accession process, should avoid any action that could compromise the closure of the Environment chapter in the accession negotiations.
Silvio Gonzato , EU ambassador to Albania: Some of my colleagues went to Zvërnec to see up close what was happening and saw bulldozers and other equipment, which seemed disproportionate to the official version that it was only about the encirclement of the area.
Work has been halted, at least for now. The government promises an environmental impact assessment before the final design is presented.
