Other details have emerged from the serious incident that occurred today in Gjirokastra, where 15-year-old Arbër Peçi drowned in the private ‘Glow’ swimming pool.
It is learned that the teenager signaled to get him out of the water, but no one dared to jump in to give him first aid. Sources from the investigation group learned that Arbër Peçi had gone to the pool at 09:30 in the company of two of his friends. While the latter sat on the loungers by the pool, Arbër dived into the water.
After a few minutes, he signaled for help to get out of the water, but no one intervened. After that, his two friends raised the alarm and then the Gjirokastra Police were notified. The official version so far is that the 15-year-old suffered a heart attack after coming into contact with the water, the temperature of which was many degrees lower than normal.
Although an autopsy has not been performed on the child’s body, this is the official version so far. It is up to the family to assess whether they agree with this version, or whether they will request an autopsy.
On the other hand, the pool is suspected of not meeting the main criteria for its operation in emergency situations. If there are no instructors or rescue experts in case of danger, there should have been a sign warning people of the dangers.
The Gjirokastra Prosecutor’s Office has not yet received the footage. So far, seven people have been taken to the police, two of whom were friends of the deceased, while the rest were pool staff.
