Meteorology Lajda Porja warns of peak heat this weekend, with temperatures reaching 38°C. Afternoons bring isolated showers in central areas
Albania and the region have officially been hit by a Mediterranean heat wave originating from Africa, which has brought a significant increase in temperatures across the European continent. According to meteorologist Lajda Porja, the month of June is expected to end with temperatures that are 7 to 8 degrees higher than the normal climate average for this period.
During the first part of the week, maximum temperatures will fluctuate around 36°C, mainly in the northeastern areas. Meanwhile, the wave is expected to intensify in the second part of the week, starting from Thursday onwards, where the highest values will be recorded in the southeastern and central areas, rising to 37°C or 38°C.
According to the forecasts presented by Porja, the four regions that will record the most extreme values in the country are Shkodra, Berat, Elbasan and Gjirokastra. In the central areas, including Tirana and Elbasan, high temperatures during the afternoon will also be accompanied by short-term and isolated rain showers. Experts appeal that during peak hours, from 10:30 to 14:30, citizens avoid unnecessary movements and stay hydrated.
The synoptic situation in the region The same heat wave has also affected the countries of the region, where Saturday is predicted to be the peak of the week. In Kosovo, the weather will be mostly stable, with isolated showers and temperatures currently fluctuating up to 34°C to increase further over the weekend. While in North Macedonia, hot and sunny mornings will be followed almost every afternoon by strong wind storms, hail and rain showers.
