The United States of America has officially announced the ratification and signing by Albania of a new loan of 302 million dollars under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program.
According to the announcement by the American side, this agreement will support Albania’s efforts to fulfill the Hague Defense Commitment, which foresees an increase in defense spending to 5% of Gross Domestic Product by 2035.
The FMF loan will be used to modernize the Albanian Armed Forces, through the purchase of key capabilities originating from the United States, as well as to strengthen Europe’s defense capabilities. The announcement emphasizes that this agreement is part of the close strategic partnership between the United States and Albania, which as a NATO member has cooperated with Washington on important security and foreign policy issues.
The US also values Albania’s role in international security structures, including its participation as a founding member of President Trump’s Peace Board.
The $302 million agreement is considered an important step in strengthening Albanian military capabilities and deepening strategic cooperation between the two countries.
